The original Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, founded by the Metropolitan of Kyiv Petro Mohyla in 1615, was one of the most distinguished educational institutions in Eastern Europe. After closure during Soviet times the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was reestablished after gaining independence of Ukraine in 1991.
The concept of associated membership as a possible intermediate step towards full European Union membership has become an important topic in contemporary debates on the future of EU enlargement and the integration of candidate countries.

Founded in 2006 NGO “Ukrainian European Studies Association” is all national non-profit organization which unites experts, academics, teachers and NGO leaders in field of European Studies in Ukraine and hosts the Ukrainian Jean Monnet Network.
The project envisages the development of course materials on research methodology and best practices in EU Studies, web resources and research publications which were unavailable to Ukrainian academic community before. The course materials and other deliverables will be produced in line with best European practices with emphasis on interdisciplinary approach.
The “EU Common Security and Defence Policy and Ukraine» project is aimed at teaching activities, organizing international seminar, workshop and conference as well as developing the course materials, web resources and research publications which were unavailable to the Ukrainian academic community.
The project seeks to educate NAUKMA students and alumni, as well as young policy-makers, civil servants and civil society representatives about the role of trade as an instrument of European integration, as well as the EU-oriented transformations in the Eastern Neighbourhood.
