International Conference «Convergence of Ukraine and European Union Economies: Problems and Prospects»

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Studies at the National University of "KyivMohyla Academy" (NaUKMA) with the support of the Jean Monnet Programme and the Department of Economics at NaUKMA organized International Conference on the theme «Convergence of Ukraine and European Union Economies: Problems and Prospects», Kiev, Ukraine, May 24-25, 2012.

 

The conference aim was to discuss the economic problems of European integration of Ukraine according to such special topics: conceptual basis of economic convergence of Ukraine and the European Union; building the smart growth model: development of knowledge-based and innovation-based economy; ensuring of economic competitiveness in global challenges: sustainable development, green economy; fair labor market: employment policy, labor payments, labor mobility, ensuring social cohesion; corporate social responsibility, poverty reduction; convergence of regional economic development, cooperation of regional economic policies.

To participate in conference were invited scholars, professors, analysts, experts of the state administrations, representatives of international organizations and NGOs, students and postgraduates from the economic Institutes of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Departments of International Economy at leading Universities, The Legislation Institute of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Kyiv’s Offices of the European Union organizations and other concerned with Eurointegration problems.

The Conference was opened with a welcome from Vice-President of The National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” Prof. Volodymyr Morenetz and Dr. Evgen Berscheda (former First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Swiss Confederation, and later to the Kingdom of Belgium, former Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva). Dr. Evgen Berscheda presented the first plenary lecture. The conference received the greeting from Dr. Gudrun Rumpf, Key Expert on Innovation Policy of The Project “Enhance Innovation Strategies, Policies and Regulation in Ukraine” that is being funded by the European Union under the program “European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument – New Opportunities for Ukraine”.

The conference consisted of five plenary sessions that covered the main topics of conference: Postindustrial Challenges for Eurointegration of Ukraine, Models of Economic Growth and Economic Development of New EU Countries and Ukraine, National Trade Policy in Eurointegration Context, EU Regional Policy and Its Using in Ukraine, Comparing Wages in Poland and Ukraine, Peculiarities of Regulation of Natural Monopolies, Mutual Innovation Development of EU and Ukraine, Technological Aspects of Regional Integration of EU and Ukraine, Innovation Models of Economic Development and the Ukrainian Enlargement to Global Innovation System, Ukraine’s Position on the European Technological Map, Building Smart Economy, Fair labor market as prerequisite the effective international relations, Place of Ukraine in European Specialization of Labour Markets, Integration of Ukraine to EU Labour Market, Sub-regional Model of Convergence in Case of Transboundary Cooperation between European Countries and Ukraine, Poverty Reduction Policy as Priority of Ukrainian Eurointegration, Currency and Monetary Policy in Eurointegration Context, European Financial Area and Ukraine, Efficiency of Economic Policy and Euroconvergence of Ukraine.

In framework of conference it had been held as separate plenary session the dispute of young researchers on the problem of the economic Eurointegration of Ukraine. The students and doctoral students took part in this dispute.

Before the start of conference sessions the brochure of the presented papers’s abstracts collection was published. Full papers will be published after the conference in a special issue of the peer-reviewed scholar journal.
