KMA scholars join the ongoing projects Norwegian researchers
The Research Council of Norway (Norges forskningsråd) jointly with National Research Foundation of Ukraine (Національний фонд досліджень України) involves KMA researchers in the ongoing projects of Norwegian researchers.
In 2026-2028, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy will participate in a 3-year research project "The Future of EUrope (TFoE) - Public and elite preferences for the relationship between EU and non-EU countries". This research project will be implemented in the framework of the joint initiative of Research Council of Norway (RCN) and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (NRFU) “Recruit a Researcher from Ukraine for an Ongoing Researcher Project” aimed at involving Ukrainian researchers in ongoing projects of Norwegian researchers. Within this initiative, Professor of the NaUKMA Department of International and European Law, Dr. Roman Petrov, will join the ongoing project of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Project Lead – Dr. Andreas Goldberg (Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology and Political Science)) funded by the Research Council of Norway.
The main goal of the project is to study the external dimension of European integration and the preferences of the public and political elites in non-EU states. In this context, Professor Roman Petrov's research expertise and knowledge of the legal and political aspects of integration and accession of Ukraine and other candidate countries to the EU will significantly contribute to achieving the project's goals. The research aims to study the past and present attitudes of the public and political elites in Ukraine towards gradual integration and accession to the EU. The project uses a comprehensive political and legal research methodology, such as studying ways to improve the political system of candidate countries for EU accession, developing a policy for future relations between the EU and candidate countries. The research covers not only EU member states, but also EU partner countries (e.g. Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom).
The main key research questions of the project include:
- What are the preferences of public and political elites for future relations between the EU and non-EU countries?
- What drives public and political elites preferences for future relations between the EU and non-EU countries?
In the opinion of the Project Lead, Dr. Andreas Goldberg, and his Ukrainian colleague, Prof. Roman Petrov, the study "The Future of Europe (TFoE): Public and Elite Preferences for EU-Non-EU Relations" will be a perfect example of cooperation and partnership between Norwegian and Ukrainian researchers and the implementation of best practices of interdisciplinary research in the field of European integration.
